Sheldon Schwartz for Pinellas County School Board District 7
website. The success of our education system depends, in
part, in leadership by the Pinellas County School Board.
I, Sheldon Schwartz, am a candidate for the School Board because
my involvement in public service, industry and local community
activities made me realize that citizens from all walks of life
should be involved. All issues demand in-depth informed
discussion and timely decisions to provide and maintain a
positive learning environment for teachers, students, parents
and the community of Pinellas County.

| With
the end of court ordered bussing, the School Board, for
the first time in over a generation, can focus primarily
on the education of Pinellas County students. My
priority as a School Board member will be always be doing
what is best for the students.

| Some
are saying that there is a crisis, and it may be looming,
but I believe that it can be averted by a Board that works
as a team to resolve issues in an efficient and effective
manner.
|
| When
elected I will work for an education system where:
teachers focus on the curriculum for student achievement
and not test preparations; students respect the teachers
and those around them to assure a positive classroom
learning environment; a greater percentage of those that
start high school graduate; there are higher
student-teacher ratios, particularly in K-4; a greater
percentage of the $1.2B budget is directly allocated to
student education; there is sustaining support for the ESE
with added emphasis on transitional planning and the
gifted program; the achievement gap is reduced without
reduction in the middle and bright student scores; and,
there is a mix of students and educators generally
reflecting the diversity of our community.
